LAWDA launches massive awareness campaign against use of polythene

SRINAGAR: Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Srinagar in collaboration with Senior Citizens Council today launched a massive awareness campaign against use of polythene in and around Dal Lake, the world famous water body.

In this connection, a big rally was taken off from Nehru Park, Dalgate with banners and play cards by the senior citizens displaying slogans of adverse effects of polythene. The rally went round the Dal area.
The members of the Senior Citizen Council, Houseboat owners and Shikarawalla’s and a large number of people participated in the rally.
On the occasion, people were acquainted about the adverse effects of polythene on aquatic and human life. Awareness was also given about non-bio-degradable nature of polythene and its harsh affects on food chains.
It is pertinent to mention that the campaign was a part of anti-polythene drive initiated by LAWDA last week under which one quintal of polythene was seized. People admired the prompt action of LAWDA.
The prominent among others who participated in the campaign include Chairman, Senior Citizens Council, Mr. Zarief Ahmad Zarief, Chairman, Houseboat Owners Association, Mr. Mohammad Azim Tooman, Public Awareness Officer and Incharge Solid Waste Manage JKLAWDA, Malik Tariq. (KMW NEWS)
