Kargil, October 30: A solemn and inspiring event marked the launching ceremony of the Late Hassan Khan Charitable Society held today at the Syed Mehdi Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of dignitaries, officials, academicians, and members of the public who came together to honor the memory and legacy of Late Hassan Khan—an educationist, police officer, and political leader remembered for his lifelong dedication to the welfare of society.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran (Tilawat-e-Quran), followed by a welcome address delivered by Former Chief Executive Councillor, Feroz Ahmad Khan, the son of Late Hassan Khan. In his address, he reflected on the life, struggles, and contributions of his father, recalling his teachings and the values he instilled through service, discipline, and compassion. He extended heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries and guests for attending the event and shared that the objective of the charitable society is to promote education and provide financial, social, and moral assistance to those in need, thereby carrying forward the noble vision of his father.
The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Akhoon congratulated Feroz Khan and his family for establishing such a noble initiative dedicated to the memory of a great personality. He expressed hope that the charitable society would become a pillar of support for underprivileged and deserving students and a source of strength for the entire community. Sharing his personal experiences with Late Hassan Khan, Dr. Akhoon described him as a man of dignity, upright character, and great humility.
He emphasized the importance of honoring such individuals by naming public infrastructure—such as roads, hospitals, or institutions—after them, as a gesture of remembrance for their invaluable contributions. He further assured that he would take up the matter with the UT Administration to ensure that Late Hassan Khan’s legacy receives due recognition.
Dr. Akhoon also highlighted several developmental initiatives being undertaken by LAHDC Kargil in various sectors aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan, in his address, extended heartfelt congratulations to Feroz Khan, his family, and all those associated with the mission of the charitable society. He lauded the efforts made to preserve the values and teachings of Late Hassan Khan, describing him as a man of honesty, integrity, and pure heart who always worked selflessly for the people.
The MP expressed confidence that the society would serve as a beacon of hope and a guiding light for future generations, inspiring them to follow the path of honesty and sacrifice for the greater good of the community.
Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohammad Feroz, while speaking on the occasion, recalled Late Hassan Khan’s contributions and his vision for unity, education, and harmony across Ladakh. He described him as an uncompromising personality who stood firmly for what was right and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of society. Extending heartfelt congratulations to his family for establishing the charitable organization, he expressed gratitude to Late Hassan Khan’s parents for raising a personality who dedicated his life to the service of others. He also expressed hope that the newly established society would continue to work for the betterment and progress of the people of Kargil.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, in his remarks, described Late Hassan Khan as his mentor and a guiding light whose teachings left a lasting impression on many lives. He expressed confidence that the charitable society would contribute meaningfully to various sectors, particularly education and health, by supporting economically weaker students. On behalf of Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, and his father, former Chief Executive Councillor, Kacho Ahmed Khan, he extended warm congratulations to Feroz Khan and his family for establishing the charitable organization.
A documentary depicting the life journey of Late Hassan Khan—from his early struggles as a student to his distinguished service as a police officer and later as a political leader—was screened during the event, drawing emotional applause from the audience. The event also featured the distribution of awards and mementos to students who excelled in education and social service.
Former Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Kacho Asfandyar Khan, in his speech, highlighted Late Hassan Khan’s unwavering honesty, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of the people, recalling several inspiring instances from his life that reflected his integrity and courage. During the ceremony, a book titled “Mindoq-e-Yaqspa”, authored by the son of State Awardee Late Master Hussain of Silmo, was also formally launched, adding a literary dimension to the event.
