CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon Inaugurates newly constructed Indoor Stadium at Goma Kargil

Kargil, December 26: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed Indoor Stadium at Goma Kargil, marking a significant milestone in strengthening sports infrastructure in the district.

The project has been completed at a cost of ₹309.86 lakh and was executed by the Public Works Department (R&B). The inauguration ceremony was attended by Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports UT Ladakh Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Councillor Town Haji Abbas Adulpa, Chief Education Officer Kargil, other district officers, and a large number of local residents.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon congratulated Councillor Haji Abbas Adulpa and the people of Goma Kargil for receiving this state-of-the-art sports facility. He also appreciated the efforts of Joint Director Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), and all allied departments for timely completion of the project.

Dr. Akhoon emphasized that the development of sports-related infrastructure plays a crucial role in nurturing youth talent and steering young people away from social evils by engaging them in healthy and constructive activities. He further stated that crores of rupees worth of developmental works are currently underway across the town in various sectors under the dynamic and dedicated leadership of Councillor Haji Abbas Adulpa.

Addressing local demands, the CEC assured that funds for the extension of the existing playground will be provided under the CAPEX budget in the coming financial year. He also informed that an alternate road is being explored to decongest traffic on the Goma Kargil Road, ensuring proper technical feasibility before execution. Additionally, he stated that LAHDC Kargil plans to strengthen the old District Hospital with modern health facilities and adequate manpower.

Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, while speaking on the occasion, congratulated the local residents on achieving this milestone. He said that LAHDC Kargil is working in mission mode to develop world-class sports infrastructure across the district to facilitate sports enthusiasts with modern amenities. He also expressed optimism that one or two Khelo India events may be organized in Kargil, which would significantly boost winter sports activities in the region.

Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Tahir Hussain Zubdavi highlighted that besides Table Tennis and Badminton, the indoor stadium can be utilized as a multi-purpose facility for various indoor sports including boxing, taekwondo, judo, wrestling, weightlifting, and other games. He urged the local community to use the facility judiciously and informed that sports-related developmental works worth nearly ₹100 crore are currently underway in the town area.

Councillor Haji Abbas Adulpa, in his address, expressed heartfelt gratitude to CEC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Joint Director Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, and other dignitaries for gracing the inaugural ceremony. He said that the inauguration of the indoor stadium has fulfilled a long-pending demand of the people of Goma Kargil and reaffirmed his commitment to working tirelessly for the development of the town at every level. He also congratulated the local residents on receiving this modern sports infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the event, prizes were distributed among the toppers of Class 8th, adding a celebratory note to the occasion.
