Srinagar: People in the Ladakh region continued to shiver as the minimum remained below freezing point while world famous tourist resort of Gulmarg and Pahalgam remained coldest in the Kashmir valley, where the sky remained partially cloudy.
Leh and Kargil town recorded below freezing point minimum temperature this morning, forcing people to remain indoor.
However, life at Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, remained badly affected due to severe cold coupled with power failure, evoking massive demonstrations on Srinagar-Leh national highway.
The Met department spokesman said the minimum at Leh was recorded minus 6.;6 degree, more than one degree below normal this morning.
However, the coldest night so far was recorded on November 17 when the mercury dipped to minus 8 degree. Kargil, a border town recorded minus 4.6 degree against yesterdays minus 1.1 degree.
However, in the upper reaches in Ladakh region, the minimum temperature was between minus 10 to minus 15 degree Celsius.
The authorities in both Leh and Kargil towns, besides Drass have stopped supplying water to people through pipes because of minus temperature.
However, consumers are being provided through water tankers while others are using spring water which remained warm during winter and cold in summer.
The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam recorded minus 0.4 and minus 0.6 degree respectively, coldest in the Kashmir valley.
The weather in summer capital, Srinagar, will remain dry but the minimum temperature will drop, Met spokesman said.
