Srinagar, July 07: Complaining of slump in footfall for Eid shopping due to shortage of parking lots in Kashmir markets, especially in the summer capital of Srinagar markets, the Kashmir Retailers Association affiliated to Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has sought personal intervention of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.
In a statement issued to Kashmir Media Watch , the KRA President , Farhan Kitab said even though the traffic police department was doing its job to regulate traffic, the restrictions on the street parking have affected the business in the Srinagar markets in particular. “The existing parking lots are either jampacked or there are no parking lots at places and as a result the shoppers shy away from coming to main markets which has affected the business of trader community even ahead of the Eid ul Azha,” Kitab said.
He said the J&K administration must create a mechanism to allow on-street parking of vehicles as otherwise shopkeepers are being pushed to starvation.
“Moreover,” Kitab said, “Markets should look flooded with rush.” “A deserted street with no vehicles and no shoppers is no healthy sign for market.”
