Srinagar, (KMW News): In an important and overwhelmed press conference today the Awami National Conference President Khalida Shah today lashed out at the Congress leader Makhan Lal Fotedar by stating that 1975 accord was broken by the New Delhi itself when Congress leaders withdrew support to National Conference.
Mrs. Shah said that the recent comments from Makhan lal Fotedar regarding the accord of 1975 were highly irresponsible and deplorable. She refused to believe that the statements carried even an iota of truth by stating that if the accord was between Sher-e-Kashmir and Mrs Gandhi why is the role of Beigh sahib being talked about and moreover if Sheikh Sahib was in jail how did Fotedar talk to Beigh Sahib, bypassing Shiekh Sahib.
When asked about the merger of ANC with NC, Mrs. Khalida Shah negating the anticipation stated “I want things should move on the principles laid by Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. Today, we see that those who were against Sheikh they and their progenies are enjoying ministerial berths in NC”.
On how she felt that youth were picking up the guns, she said due to wrong policies of the government the youth are pushed to pick up guns. “They feel sense of alienation and change their mind towards armed insurgency,” she said.
Further lashing out at the NC-Congress government, she said the coalition has lost its all credibility as people have rejected the current regime. “Whenever there is any bad thing happening in the government, Congress blames NC and vice-versa and they have kept doing so and peoples welfare has always been neglected due to this. There is no accountability in the government and we wanted to a give a responsible and people friendly political alternative yet again to the people,” she said.
On a question posed about the recent Amarnath Yatra threat issue She said there was no threat to Amarnath yatra. “When Militancy was at its peak, Yatra did take place smoothly, when nothing happened at that time, why would Yatris be attacked now,” she said. About the formation of third front, she said any merger would be on the basis of Kashmir resolution and homogeneous ideology only.
Khalida, who was flanked by her son and senior vice president of the party Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, said the bogey of the threat was a deliberate attempt to hurt the hospitality of Kashmiris which is world famous. Referring to the Kashmir issue, the ANC president said downplaying the problem will not help and stressed the need for addressing the vexed issue for better future, peace and prosperity in the region.
“Resolution of Kashmir issue is the most important thing…It is of no use saying Kashmir is not an issue,” she said adding “if Kashmir is not an issue, then why India and Pakistan are meeting frequently to discuss the problem? What was the reason behind the nomination of interlocutors and the need for (Prime Minister’s) working groups?”
