Srinagar, Jul 22 : A youth was killed in fresh security force firing while another succumbed in the hospital today, taking the toll to 49, including three women and a police constable, since July 9 in Kashmir, where life remained crippled due to curfew and strike.
However, the local media claimed that 50 people have died in the violence which erupted following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants in an encounter in Kokernag in Anantnag district on July 8 evening.
Immediately after the Friday prayers, people at Awantipora in the north Kashmir district of Pulwama took to the streets, raising ”pro-freedom” slogans. However, when security forces and state police tried to stop them, the processionists pelted stones, official source said, adding that security forces opened fire resulting in injuries to three people.
