SRINAGAR, (KMW News): Chief Executive Officer, Verinag Development Authority, Mr Nazir Ahmed Thakur today flagged off a team of 40 trekkers from Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports (JIM&WS) for trekking from Varinag to Jawahar Tunnel.
Captain, P. K. Singh (JIM&WS), Members from Civil Society and large number of students from the different schools of the area were present on occasion.
Hamid Hassan Shah, Shahid Fayaz Bhat and Irfan Ahmed of class 10th of Government High Secondary School, Verinag got Ist, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Later, a cleanliness drive was also launch in Verinag town and its adjacent areas Which got a lot of appreciation from people. The locals also joined the cleanliness drive and pledged to keep the area neat and clean.
On the occasion, CEO highlighted the significant of tourism festival and said that the organization of trekking competition and cleanliness drive is a part of Kashmir Tourism Festival-2013 which was commenced from May 14. He said that organizing different competitions at different places of tourist importance is an effort to aware the tourists and locals regarding tourist places and tourist activities carried out by the department.
The local artists presented varieties of cultural programmes and folk music which spell bound the audiences.
