Srinagar: Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said that the situation in Kashmir was ‘explosive’ and that India needs to respect the wishes and aspirations of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interaction with a delegation of Swaraj Peeth Trust, a Gandhian center for nonviolence and peace, who called on him at his Nageen residence here, Mirwaiz deplored the criminal silence observed by a “vast section” of Indian civil society over the grave human rights violations in Kashmir. The Valley’s chief cleric urged the delegation to apprise the Indian public about the “explosive” situation in Valley.
“Being the followers of Gandhiji’s non-violent philosophy, it is your duty to inform the Indian masses about the ground situation in Kashmir and impress upon the Indian government to stop human rights violations in Kashmir and resolve the Kashmir issue according to the wishes and aspirations of people,” Mirwaiz said.
