Srinagar, January 26(KMW): For the thirty consecutive years today on 26 January, 2019 Kashmir shut on the eve of 70 th Republic Day of India.
The heart of Kashmir Lalchowk and areas from North to South Kashmir bore a deserted look with empty streets and closed establishments.
The call for shutdown was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership .
Since the Armed insurgency broke in Kashmir during late eighties Kashmir has been observing the shutdown on every Republic and Independence Day of India.
Earlier in the Day an encounter in the outskirts of Capital City at Khanmoh area would kill two militants and injure few security personnel.
The controversy marred the Republic Day function at Srinagar when Media decided to boycott the event in what they described humiliating behaviour of authorties.
