Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani Sunday said Kashmir was the “root of all conflicts” between India and Pakistan.
“Unless Kashmir is not resolved the two countries will neither be able to resolve the Siachen issue nor the water dispute,” Geelani said during a seminar—“Resolution of Kashmir—only guarantee for peace”— held at his led-Hurriyat’s Hyderpora office today.
Geelani said there was no question of holding talks with New Delhi unless India accepts Kashmir an international dispute.
“Tri-lateral talks between India, Pakistan and the Kashmiri leadership are imperative for resolving the issue as 150 rounds of bilateral talks have failed to produce any results. India is not sincere in resolving the Kashmir issue otherwise it would have accepted our five demands,” Geelani said
Geelani said the summer agitation had not only drawn the attention of the international community and “justice loving people in India” but also helped clear the “allegation of our movement being militant and Pakistan sponsored.”
Geelani also reiterated his appeal for boycotting the Panchayat elections, asking people to “remember sacrifices of martyrs.”
“The so called Panchayat polls are coming. People should remember the sacrifices and refrain from participating in polls like the 2008 assembly elections. The people of Kashmir offer sacrifices but later neglect their importance,” he said.
