Srinagar: Kashmir observed shutdown for the second consecutive day on call given by Syed Ali Shah Geelani led Hurriyat against the alleged arrest spree. Almost all shops, private offices, banks, petrol pumps and other business establishments remained closed in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state.
Public transport was also off the roads in most pars of Kashmir even as some private vehicles were seen plying in uptown areas, reports and eyewitnesses said. It is worth mentioning here that Post Eid-ul-Fitr last week, Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for two-day ‘civil curfew’ to protest the continued arrest of youth and other political leaders.
Reports of complete shutdown were received from others major districts of the Valley including Baramulla, Bandipora in north Kashmir and southern Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian.
Similar reports were received from Ganderbal and Budgam districts in central Kashmir.
Officials said that the day passed off peacefully and there were no untoward incident reported from anywhere in the Valley.
But in few selected pockets of summer capital Srinagar public transport was seen plying.
