Srinagar: The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-administered-Kashmir (PaK) has been suspended today following heavy snow
fall on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
Official sources told that the bus was suspended after both the governments agreed following heavy snowfall, particularly on the other side of the LoC.
The passengers, who were scheduled to travel in today’s bus, will be accommodated in the next bus, they said.
However, the number of PaK guests had come down during this winter.
This was for the first time during 2012 that the bus service was suspended due to snowfall.
The service was started on April 7, 2005 for the families divided in 1947, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off first bus from here to PaK.
Thousands of divided families have so far benefited from the bus service after both India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir, living on both sides of the LoC, on permits instead of international passports. However, both the governments have to clear the names before allowing the travel of any person. (KMW News)
