Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday evening claimed to have slain two militants in an encounter that occurred in HerporaChattergul village of Kangan.
As per the reports the State Police along with 24 RR zeroed on in and cordoned off a locality of Herpora Chattergul villagein response to an intelligence cue regarding the presence of a bunch of militants in the said area. “Once the cordon was put in place the militants were asked to surrender which they responded with heavy firing triggering a fierce encounter” said a senior police official affiliated with the encounter team. The encounter was still in place which has so far claimed the lives of two militants until the reception of last reports by the Kashmir Media Watch team. The police has reported to have followed the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) with utmost care and caution to reduce the collateral damage to the locality as far as possible.
The army deployed along the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir has been put on maximum alert to thwart any infiltration bid by the militants from across the border following intelligence reports about various militias preparing to sneak into the state from across the Line of Control (LoC) before the mountain passes are closed by the winter snow.
