Joint Inspection Drive Conducted in Zanskar Main Market

Zanskar, February 10: Under the directions of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Zanskar, a joint inspection drive was conducted today in the Main Market, Zanskar, to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and to safeguard consumer interests.

The inspection was led by the Naib Tehsildar, Zanskar, and carried out jointly by the Food Safety Officer, officials from the Medical Department, the Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO), FCS&CA Department, along with the Police team.

During the drive, more than 25 establishments, including retail shops, vegetable vendors, restaurants, tea stalls, and dhabas operating in the Zanskar market, were thoroughly inspected. The inspection team detected expired food items and observed unhygienic and unsanitary conditions in several establishments. All expired and unsafe food items were immediately destroyed on the spot to eliminate any potential risk to public health. Surveillance samples were also collected for laboratory analysis.

Furthermore, 12 challans were issued to erring shopkeepers for violations of prescribed food safety and hygiene norms. Traders were strictly instructed to maintain proper cleanliness, adhere to food safety standards, and ensure that only quality, safe, and non-expired products are sold to consumers.

The administration has cautioned that such inspection drives will be conducted regularly, and strict action will be taken against any individual or establishment found compromising public health and consumer safety.
