JNU row: I do not support anti-India activities, says Kanhaiya Kumar

New Delhi, Feb 17 : Refuting the allegations of the Delhi Police, which arrested him on sedition charges over an event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru University against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, JNU Students Union leader Kanhaiya Kumar today said that he was not anti-national and did not support anti-India slogans.In a statement by Kanhaiya Kumar, he said, I do not support the events which are not in the Constitution of India. I condemn the event organised on February 9.

After seeing the videos on the event which was organised on February 9, many students from JNU as well as students from outside the varsity were raising anti-national slogans. However, I do not support the slogans raised by them and appealed them not to disrupt the peace in society, the university and the country, he added.Kumar was today sent to judicial custody till March 2 after he was arrested on sedition charges.Earlier in the day, lawyers assaulted him when he was entering the Patiala House Court in the national capital.On Monday, teachers and students of JNU, who were present in the court to support Kumar, along with the journalists were manhandled, were pushed and forced to move out of the court by lawyers by shouting slogans of Long Live India, Down with JNU.The police arrested Kanhaiya Kumar, who is from the CPI-affiliated All India Students Federation (AISF), on February 12 on charges of raising anti-India slogans during a meeting on Kashmir on the campus.
