Srinagar, Feb 13: Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association (JKYJA) has urged the Lieutenant Governor administration for extending insurance policy to field journalists and persons associated with media. It remarked that health insurance is the prominent need of the journalists.
JKYJA called the government that in wake of many journalists facing illness in recent times and having no source of income, adding, it has been a painful reality that Journalists in the times of need have to openly plead on social media platforms for help.
It has been affirmed that right to health is the fundamental right in the constitution of India as such appealing LG administration to introduce the Health Insurance package through Department of Information and PR. Journalists are an important bridge between Government and masses.
JKYJA President Ajaz Ahmad War said: “Media as the fourth estate calling its role paramount in shaping the society. Journalists are soul of the society and thus their health security should be seen as top priority and they should not beg for donations in times of health need.”
He expressed hope that in the country when health insurance is taken seriously the need of the hour is to provide health insurance to the Journalists of Jammu and Kashmir.
