Jammu, May 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association (JKTA), led by its UT President Bhupinder Singh, has
has called for a change in school timings in the winter zones, suggesting an adjustment from 9 AM to 3 PM to better accommodate the needs of students and teachers.
In a statement issued to the Kashmir Media Watch, Moreover, JKTA reaffirmed its commitment to addressing several long pending issues of the employees of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the foremost demands is the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and the scrapping of the National Pension System (NPS). The association believes that reinstating the OPS will ensure better financial security for the employees.
The JKTA is also calling for the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission and the establishment of a Permanent National Commission to regularly review and enhance employee pay, a move that has been long overdue. Furthermore, there is a pressing need to enhance the pay grades of Jammu and Kashmir UT employees to match those of other Union Territories. As Jammu and Kashmir is now a Union Territory, it is only fair that its employees receive equal salaries.
JKTA has demanded a comprehensive transfer policy for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers. Such a policy is crucial for ensuring stability and career growth among teachers. The association also emphasizes the importance of working of Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir. This will streamline and expedite the promotion process for employees.
Recognizing the unique topography and climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, the JKTA proposes the implementation of separate academic sessions to better suit the educational needs of the region.
UT President JKTA Bhupinder Singh emphasized that the JKTA is dedicated to improving the working conditions and welfare of teachers and employees. The association remains committed to its comprehensive five-point agenda, which includes Character Building in schools, Management Education, Teacher Education, Environmental Awareness, and the Promotion and Documentation of Indigenous Languages and Cross Cultures. These efforts have already yielded significant positive results among stakeholders.
The JKTA calls on the relevant authorities to address these demands to ensure a fair and conducive working environment for all employees, thereby enhancing the overall educational experience for students in the UT.
