J&K Water Sports Associations extend Helping Hand to UT Administration Amid Flood Threats

Srinagar, 03 September: In view of the unfavourable climatic conditions and looming flood threats, the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Rowing and Sculling (JKARS) along with the Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports Kayaking & Canoeing Association (JKWSKCA) have extended their full support to the Union Territory administration.

An urgent meeting was convened with water sports athletes to chalk out strategy and prepare for potential rescue operations. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Burhan Bazaz, President of JKARS, and Mr. Shafqat Watali, President of JKWSKCA, through online mode.

Prominent water sports icon cum coach and athlete Ms Bilquis Mir also participated in the meeting and expressed her commitment to actively render her services for rescue operations, if needed.

Over 50 professional paddlers, all of whom are trained swimmers, volunteered their services and pledged to be available for deployment in affected areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Burhan Bazaz said, “being water sports professionals, it is our responsibility to stand by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in times of crisis. Our athletes are not only champions in the field of sports but also trained individuals capable of saving lives during emergencies.”

The associations assured the UT administration of their preparedness to mobilize their trained athletes swiftly for relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas, reaffirming their dedication and commitment not only to sports but also to the service of society in times of crisis.
