SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference Friday said the state enjoyed a special status within the country’s federal structure under the Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which envisages that all the powers, except external affairs, communication, broadcast, and defense, would rest with the state government.
“Unfortunately, however, the immature state leadership is oblivious to all the historical developments, decision and the sacrifices rendered by the people and, displaying total ignorance, hobnobbing with the Congress in New Delhi and presenting a charge-sheet against the state’s National Conference – Congress coalition government on the issue of empowering panchayat members,†party’s senior vice-president, Muzaffar Shah, said in a statement.
This, he said, was apt to deliver a rude blow to the state’s special status and identity at which the state people were aghast over the lack of ability and maturity in the local leadership and were eager to bring a new leadership to power. He said the Congress and Peoples Democratic Party leaders were growing impatient to come into power in the state.
Describing the new development as unfortunate and as a big tragedy, Shah said, their leaders had no interest in the state’s future for which the people would hold them to account. “The people will not rest till these leaders are fully exposed. Eventually, the people’s power expresses itself and overthrows the selfish leadership,†he warned.  (KMW News)
