Jammu Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda today ensured peaceful summers in the Kashmir Valley after darbar move.
“Under Joint exercise, we have geared up to tackle the situation and we hope that the valley will observe violence free summers,” Mr Khoda told reporters outside the state Legislative Assembly. He said, “we want that businessmen, traders do not suffer and tourism gets boost as it has already suffered too much due to previous year’s Kashmir unrest,” the DGP said.
He, however, said that in case there would be law and order problem, J&K Police was ready to face any challenge.
“We want to use minimum force to normalize the situation so as to avoid inconvenience to the common man but in case the situation deteriorates, it will be dealt firmly,” Mr Khoda added.
He further said he, along with Home Secretary, visited BSF Academy, Tikanpur in Haryana to access the first hand knowledge of modifications in non-lethal weapons like tear gas shells, smoke shells, laser guns to be used during agitations and riots like situation.
“We want to minimize the risks of any casualty or damage to the property. Already five battalions of police have been raised to tackle the law and order problem,” he added.
On Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant Sajjad Afghani’s killing in Kashmir yesterday, Mr DGP said, “the killed terrorist was not the one who was associated with Azhar Masood. Afghani, a close associate of Masood, was gunned down long back when he tried to escape from Kot Bhalwal Jail.
