Lifts All India Super Sports Society Cup 2016
Srinagar, Jan.27(KMW): J&K Bank today scripted yet another scintillating victory to lift the All India Super Sports Society Cup. The thrilling final match, played in the city of Nawabs Lucknow, between J&K Bank and Air India resulted in a tie breaker situation in which J&K Bank emerged as winners.
State Speaker Surinder Singh was the Chief Guest on the occasion and distributed the total cash awards of Rs.2 lacs and trophies among the teams. Sports Society Members, Media personals and an impressive crowd witnessed the match.
Both the teams were unable to open the score though the game was played in full momentum from end to end. After the 90 mins of play match was decided in tie breaker in which J&K Bank converted 4 out of 5 kicks whereas Air India scored only 2. Shabir Ahmed Goalkeeper of J&K Bank was adjudged the best goalkeeper and Prem Kumar was adjudged Man of the Match with a cash award of Rs.5 thousand each.
Notably, J&K Bank team played this tournament in absence of their top 7 players who are assigned with the responsibilities of representing State Team in upcoming Santosh Trophy. J&K Bank team during this tournament defeated professional teams like SAIL Bokaro in quarterfinals Deccan Rovers in semifinals and ultimately Air India in the final.
Chairman of the Bank’s Sports Board Surjeet Singh Sehgal and vice Chairman Sports Board Roshan Khayal congratulated the team over the well scripted victory and hailed the wonderful performance of the players.
