JeM Chief Commander Killed at Rafiabad: Police

Srinagar: On the basis of specific information about the presence of JeM Commander in the house of one Ali Mohammad Bhat son of Abdul Gaffar Bhat at Chatlor Rafiabad, a Police party with the assistance of Army 22 RR sealed the suspected house late in the night on 23-11-2012. In the wee hours today when the search party led by Sub Inspector Dilraj Singh entered in the house, the militant hiding in the hideout fired upon the search party in which the Sub Inspector Dilraj Singh got injured. In the exchange of fire that lasted for some time, the Pakistani militant Commander of JeM outfit who was operating under the code names of Showket, Shazeb, Shoib, Yasir etc got killed.

The killed militant was wanted in civilian killings. He had infiltrated into the Valley in year 2002 and had been active in Kupwara and Sopore area since then. As per the initial investigation, the slain militant was working as chief Commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad. He was involved in killing of Zonal President of a political party namely Ghulam Mohammad Mir and a local leader of another political party namely Ghulam Mohidin Bhat, besides other subversive activities . One AK Series rifle, one pistol along with other arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. (KMW News)
