Srinagar: While a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) died under ‘mysterious circumstances’ in Pulwama district, suspected militants made an abortive bid at a paramilitary CRPF patrol in neighboring Tral town in the southern Kashmir official sources told Press Bureau of India on Friday.
They said that Subadar (JCO), Narinder Singh Chowhan (belt No. JC-449879T) was found dead in 55 Rashtriya Rifles Camp in Kakapora, Pulwama. “His body was shifted to 92-Base hospital B.B Cant here, for further medical formalities,” they said, adding, “Police has initiated proceedings under section 174 CrPC to ascertain cause of the death.”
In neighbouring Tral town, suspected militants tossed a grenade towards 185 battalion CRPF patrol this afternoon. “The device failed to explode,” they said. The grenade was later defused by a Bomb Disposal Squad of Police without any damage to life or property, they added.
Meanwhile, police said that a Lashker-e-Toiba militant surrendered before it in Awantipora police station.
The police identified the surrendered militant as Mansoor Ahmad Sheikh of Dadsar Awantipora.
