Japanese Sericulture Scientists Visit CSB–CSR&TI Pampore and P4-BSF Manasbal

Srinagar, March 10: A high-level delegation of sericulture experts from Japan and India visited the Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI), Pampore, yesterday, to review the progress of the ongoing Indo–Japan collaborative research project in sericulture.

The delegation was led by Dr. Shuichiro Tomita of the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Japan, and Dr. S. Manthira Moorthy, Director (Technical), Central Silk Board, Government of India and was received by Dr. N. Sakthivel, Director, CSR&TI, Pampore.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed various research and developmental activities being undertaken under the Indo-Japan collaboration. The visiting scientists also toured the Seri Museum at the institute, which showcases the history, culture and technological advancements in temperate sericulture. The delegation appreciated the institute’s efforts in promoting scientific research and knowledge dissemination in the sericulture sector.

The delegation visited the P4-Basic Seed Farm (BSF) at Manasbal today, where they examined the mulberry germplasm resources maintained at the farm. The scientists showed keen interest in the conservation and scientific management of mulberry genetic resources and reviewed the ongoing sericulture activities at the farm.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with both sides emphasizing that such scientific exchanges strengthen cooperation between India and Japan and facilitate the sharing of advanced technologies, research findings and innovative practices for the advancement of the sericulture sector.
