WASHINGTON: ISI Chief Lt. General Shuja Pasha met acting CIA director Michael Morell, Geo News reported. They discussed vacating the Shamshi airbase, the situation arising from the continued drone attacks and the release of Dr. Shakeel Afridi.
Dr. Shakeel is believed to have run a fake hepatitis vaccination drive to gain the DNA samples of Osama bin Laden’s family.
The ISI chiefs visit to Washington comes days after the US suspended a third of its aid to the Pakistani Military because of deepening tensions. Relations between the intelligence establishments of the two countries have been on a downward spiral since January after the Raymond Davis Saga. Joint operations against militants were suspended soon afterward.
The relationship was further strained in May when US special-forces killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a secret raid in Abbottabad. Pakistan branded the operation a violation of its sovereignty.
