SRINAGAR: Department of Agriculture has drawn 36 days schedule of holding 31 Farm Machinery Melas throughout the valley to be held between November 01 to December 06, 2012.
The series of Melas was inaugurated by Ghulam Hassan Mir Minister for Agriculture today at Lal Mandi, Srinagar. On this occasion Mir said that Government is giving thrust to the Agriculture sector in view its huge employability and economic potential. He urged farmers to introduce mechanization in farm sector to make it more profitable. He said that our target is to make Agriculture more profitable and glamorous for which the Department is providing incentives on various machines useful in the sector.
He said this will create employment opportunities for youth and would strengthen the economy of farming community. Minister said that under protected cultivation the Department would provide poly greenhouses so that fresh vegetables will be available the people during the winter season. Mir said that this year department will provide Rs 10 crore subsidy for purchase of machinery and Rs 3 crore for poly greenhouses to the farming community of the Valley. He advised the farmers to keep in close coordination with the field functionaries of the department for successful implementation of the schemes launched by the department.
Director Agriculture Kashmir said that the Department of Agriculture is making all out efforts for achieving higher productivity by way of tapping the land resources, irrigation potential, introduction of high yielding varieties, maintenance of soil fertility and farm mechanization. He advised the farmers to adopt the high tech Agriculture to boost the Agriculture and avail the benefits of various schemes launched by the Department. He said that the main aim of the Melas is that the farmers can purchase the Agriculture Implements and Machinery of their own choice from the registered company.
In the said Mela several authorized dealers displayed different kinds of Agriculture machinery.
At the conclusion of the function Minister distributed the incentive cheques worth Rs. among the farmers who have purchased the farm machinery.
Among others Director Law Enforcement, Director Command Area Development Department, Managing Director Agro Industries Corporation, chief Agriculture Officer, Officers, Officials of the department and the large number of farmers were present on the occasion. (KMW News)
