Indian, Pak DGMOs meet, decide on steps for peace on LoC

Wagah/New Delhi, Dec 24 (KMW):Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan met at Wagah border in Amritsar today after 14 years in a fresh bid to establish peace along the volatile Line of Control (LoC) between the two countries and decided on several steps including holding meetings between their respective Brigade Commanders at the LoC.

Consensus was reached at making hotline contact between the two DGMOs “more effective and result-oriented”, a Joint Statement issued here after the meeting said.

DGMOs of both countries normally speak with each other every Tuesday.

It was also decided to inform each other if any innocent civilian inadvertently crossed the LoC and ensure his or her early return.

The Indian delegation at the meeting was headed by Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia while the Pakistan side was led by Maj Gen Aamer Riaz.

The meeting which began at 1145 Hrs, lasted more than two-and-a-half hours.

The meeting, followed by lunch and coming after a gap of 14 years, was held in a “cordial, positive and constructive atmosphere.”

The last time the DGMOs meeting was held after the Kargil war.
