Bangalore: India today welcomed Australia’s move to reconsider its decision against sale of uranium to fuel Indian nuclear power reactors.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, on the sidelines of the 11th council of minister’s meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation said, “We attach growing importance to our relations with Australia which is growing across the board. Energy is one of the important areas of bilateral cooperation.” “We understand Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard proposed to seek a change in Labor party policy on sale of uranium to India in recognition of its energy needs and for its impeccable records of Non-Proliferation Accord,” he added. “Recognising the strategic partnership between our two countries, we welcome this important decision,” Mr Krishna said.
