The bone of contention has been the Kashmir dispute for which two countries have fought three wars. Pertinently, India claims the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir and currently administers approximately 60 perecent of the region, including most of Jammu, the Kashmir Valley, Ladakh, and the Siachen Glacier. India’s claim is contested by Pakistan, which controls approximately 30% of Kashmir, and has named the area as Azad Kashmir and the northern areas of Gilgit and Baltistan. China controls 10% of Kashmir, including Aksai Chin, which it occupied following the brief Sino-Indian War of 1962, and the Trans-Karakoram Tract (also known as the Shaksam Valley), which was ceded by Pakistan in 1963.
On account of unsolved disputes, the two countries have resorted their energies and resources to destruction . The need of the hour is that the two countries develop a positive relation and solve the Kashmir and other issues once for all so that an era of prosperity and peace is ushered in region.
