Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today appealed to people to follow traffic rules while driving on road.
Counting achievements of coalition government on the 66th Independence Day, Mr Chand said the introduction of traffic light signals in Jammu and Srinagar by Municipal Corporations has considerably eased and disciplined the traffic flow.
He, however, appealed to the citizens to follow traffic rules in right earnest.
He added that the state government to meet the water shortage in Jammu, has formulated a project worth Rs 500 crore for getting water from Chenab river, which will solve the problem of drinking water.
Paying homage to freedom fighters, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “We should not forget our brave jawans, who sacrificed their lives for unity and integrity of the country.” “The growth of Jammu and Kashmir was adversely affected due to challenging situation in past more than two decades,” he said adding that the violence has taken them far back but they were thankful to the security forces for their efforts to establish normalcy.
The state has made considerable progress during the past six years on various fronts, he added.
“Different measures have been taken to ensure accountability in public life,” he said adding that the rural poor in the state have been benefited to a great extent by MGNREGA.
