Srinagar, June 19 (KMW): Hurriyat Conference (M) Friday sternly denounced the government for imposing curfew and restrictions in major parts of Srinagar, Pattan, Pallhalan, and other areas of Kashmir to stop the march towards Sopore.
While condemning the ‘dictatorial and undemocratic’ steps of government to stop the march, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest, said that his social, political and religious activities were restricted by the government on the first day of Ramzaan.
“On the eve of Friday, authorities sealed the historic Jamia Masjid for Nimazees, and did not allow prayers there. They also restricted large prayer gatherings in other parts of valleys to foil the protest march which was highly condemnable and deplorable,” he said.
“By taking such draconian and anti-people measures, the state government stands exposed and today’s actions have once again proved that Kashmir continues to be a police state wherein there is no place for peaceful protests. Such measures would not weaken the resolve of Kashmiris and their resistance leadership instead would make them stronger to face the forces of occupation,” Mirwaiz added.
Meanwhile, senior Hurriyat (M) leaders including Moulana Abbas Ansari and Masroor Abbas Ansari were placed under house arrest while Mukhtar Ahmad Waza arrested and lodged in Sherbagh police station Anantnag, Advocate Shahid ul Islam at Rajabagh police station, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War at Maisuma police station, Mohamamd Sidiq Hazar at Nageen police station, while Musadiq Adil was stopped on his way to Sopore. The police also conducted raids on the leaders and activists of Hurriyat constituents including Awami Action Committee.
Senior Hurriyat (M) leader Muzaffar Rizvi took out a protest rally in Mirgund against the targeted killings of innocents in Kashmir.
