Srinagar: Claiming that National Conference thrive on the discontent of people, senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and former Finance Minister, Tariq Hamid Karra Wednesday said that this party is hell-bent to keep people away from election process for petty gains.
“Let this party motivate people and urge them to caste vote and you will not find the address of NC anywhere. This party implements the boycott call of Hurriyat and even Prime Minister of India didn’t deny the facts that elections were rigged tactfully in Srinagar during 2008 Assembly Elections,” Karra told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS and added that atmosphere of discontent and disorder is being created to pave way for the complete election boycott in Kashmir.
Reacting sharply over the claims made by Ali Mohammad Sagar that Mufti Mohammad Syed bifurcated All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Karra said that before making such claims National Conference should answer which party was responsible for the creation of Hurriyat Conference.
He said NC is responsible for the militancy in Kashmir. “Hurriyat Conference is pursuing the agenda which this party shunned for power. Instead of talking about bifurcation in Hurriyat, this party should answer who created Hurriyat,” he said.
“NC exploited the sentiments of people for power. It is the party, which advocated plebiscite, and people of Kashmir were swayed and started dreaming about their future. But everything it did for grabbing power and it is history which we can’t deny,” he said.
Tariq Hamid Karra said that National Conference should worry for its future. “Instead of leveling allegations on us, this party should introspect and should find out the reasons why from 65 seats it came down to 28,” he said adding that it is an established fact that popularity of PDP is growing day by day.
“From 16 seats PDP jumped to 21 and there was a time when National Conference used to rule the State all alone and now it has to beg for support from other parties. Doesn’t it worry this party? “ he said.
He further said that during the three years of PDP rule, scores of developmental projects were started in Srinagar. “ I want to ask NC, which project they started in Srinagar from past five years and which one has been completed. Hollow slogans do not work for long. People are the best judge and time will decide which party will carry the day,” he said.
