House Panel discusses G.B.Pant Hospital Report

SRINAGAR: The Estimates Committee (EC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly headed by its Chairman, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan Tuesday examined the report submitted by the Health and Medical Education department about the causes of large number of infant deaths in G.B. Pant hospital recently.
The Committee with its members, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, Mr. A. R. Veeri, Mr. G. M. Saroori, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bhukhari, Mr. Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Peer Afaaq Ahmed and Mr. Mohammad Yasin Shah suggested several measures to improve the health scenario in the G.B.Pant Hospital. The Committee was tasked to ascertain the reasons for large scale deaths of children in the hospital in recent months which created havoc in the media and in general public.
The Committee also suggested some immediate preventive measures to ensure quick attention of the doctors towards the sick infants who are admitted in the hospital for saving their lives. They opined that saving the life of a patient is the first and paramount duty of the doctor and they must fulfill their legitimate duties with extra cautious approach. A small delay on the part of the doctor can lose a precious life, the Committee observed.
Among others, Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, Mr. M.K.Dwivedi, Director SKIMS, Dr. Showket Ahmed Zargar, Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Principal GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Qazi Masood, acting Principal GMC Jammu Dr. Aniece Chowdhary, Mission Director, NRHM, Dr. Yashpal Sharma and other officers of health and medical education department, Drug Control Organization and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
