Srinagar: Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including its divisional commander were arrested by joint team of Army and police in Valley since last week.
Reliable sources told KMW Saturday that in a major setback to Hizb, two of its top commanders were arrested by Army and police in two different raids in Srinagar and South Kashmir’s Islamabad district.
Divisional commander, Kashmir Abdur Rashid, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh was arrested by a joint team of Army’s 36 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) from Kokernag area of Islamabad district last week. Rashid’s wife, whose identity is not known, was also arrested.
The Hizb commander hailing from Thathri area of mountainous Doda district was putting up at a rented accommodation in Kokernag for over six months now. He was an active militant of the outfit for over eight years now. In Kokernag, he was known by the name of Jehangir.
After Rashid’s arrest, SOG and Army arrested another top militant commander from Srinagar city.
Nisar Ahmad, son of Abdul Gani Malik of Bandhal, Kajud of Doda district was held from the capital city during the intervening night of October 29/30. Ahmad who was known as Muzammil among his comrades was active for over a year.
The arrests have come as a big blow for Hizb. As of now, police has recovered one AK-47 rifle, 3 magazines, 19 rounds and 1 grenade from their possession,†sources said.
“The inputs were received by SOG. However, Army assisted them in both the operations,†they added.
