Srinagar: Hizbul Mujahideen today corrected statement of its Supremo and United Jehad Council (UJC) Chairman, Syed Salahuddin with regard to killing of five Indian soldiers on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector, saying the troops were killed in clashes among two units of the Indian army.

“The statement which was issued regarding the killing of five Indian soldiers, based on inputs from the field sources, has not been proved correct. Confirmed reports have proved that on the spot where the army men were killed, the 20 Bihar regiment had completed its duties and was being replaced by 14 Maratha Light Infantry. On some issue related to handing over of charge, a gunfight erupted which resulted in death of five Indian soldiers”, the Hizbul Mujahideen spokesman, Saleem Hashmi claimed in a statement issued to news agency.
He accused the India Defence Minister of holding Pakistan army and militants responsible for killing of the troops on the LoC ‘despite having knowledge about the reality’.
“The Defence Minister made three conflicting statements on the killing of the troops. First he held militants from across the border responsible for the attack. Then he held both militants and Pakistan army responsible for it but in the third he put the whole blame of Pakistan army”, the statement said.
“In fact all these statements are being made with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind and have to be understood in that perspective. Both so called secular and saffron brigade parties are trying to gather as many votes as possible by resorting to anti-Pakistan propaganda”, it added.
