Srinagar, July 13(KMW): Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman and All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War during a nocturnal raid. “A contingent of Policemen cordoned off the Maisuma residence of Engineer Hilal last night and arrested him. He has been lodged at Police Station Maisuma†the spokesman said.
According to a statement issued to KMW, Mr. War was scheduled to lead a rally from Maisuma to Martyrs graveyard, Naqshband Sahab in order to pay homage to July 13, 1931 martyrs. Mr. War, while endorsing Hurriyat programme had urged the people to observe a complete shutdown in order to pay the homage to martyrs of July 13. A party spokesperson condemned his arrest in strong words saying it amounted to State oppression and termed the arrest as a barbaric act and in clear violation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
