Official sources told a that the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed by the authorities for traffic following fresh snowfall and incessant rains around Jawahar Tunnel, Ramban, Banihal and other places this morning. The snow and rains rendered the highway unsafe for movement of the traffic.
However, as the weather conditions improved, the traffic was resumed on the only surface link that connects Valley with the rest of the world.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Highways, Ghulam Mohammad Wadoo said the traffic on the highway was suspended this morning due to snow and rains. However, he said after a few hours, the highway was thrown open for traffic.
“The highway was closed this morning as a precautionary measures in view of snow and rains.. The road conditions are not good. As the weather improved, all vehicles were allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations†he added.
