Traffic to move from Srinagar to Jammu: IGPÂ
Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link of Kashmir with rest of the world, was reopened for traffic after several hours following snow avalanche and landslides near at Shaitani Nala on the thoroughfare.
Official sources told that traffic from Valley remained stuck at several places till 5 p.m. before the beacon authorities cleared it under the supervision of chief engineer TPS Rawat.
As the road was cleared, about 600 Light Motor Vehicles from Valley and as many as from Jammu crossed Jawahar tunnel today, they said.
Over one hundred Jammu bound trucks also moved to the winter capital, they said.
Amir Ali, official on special duty with divisional commissioner said 32 oil tankers, 35 LPG tankers, 21 trucks loaded with Chicken, 30 with Sheep, 33 trucks carrying rice of FCI and 40 trucks with vegetables crossed Jawahar Tunnel by 1.00 am during the intervening night of 12 and 13th of January.
Inspector General of Police Highway, Hemant Kumar Lohia told PBI that no fresh traffic will be allowed on highway from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow.
“Only one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed but those intending to travel are advised to cross Qazigund by 9 a.m.,†he said.
He said that those move after 12 noon, should contact traffic control room before starting their journey. Â (KMW News)
