Heavy Snowfall in Kashmir presents mixed bag efficiency of Administration

As on the 23 rd Feburary after days of Unusual Sunshine, Kashmir woke upto heavy snowfall, with it being heavier in South and Central Kashmir parts.

The Snowfall caused much damage to Power infrastructure. The restoration of power supply presented mix bag picture.

 Many areas of Downtown, Uptown and adjoining areas of the Srinagar City saw quick restoration of electricity whiles many areas of Downtown and Maisuma were yet to witness restoration.

As far as Snow clearance is concerned it at the start of day was going on at snail pace but as the day progressed it gained momentum.

On his part , Chief Engineer  KPDCL Aijaz Ahmad Dar  stated :”

65% system is down.

Load around 400 megawatts. Restoration work is going on and expected to restore 800-900MW by evening.”

Meanwhile, 43 flights have been canceled at Srinagar Airport causing distress to the passengers.

Due to heavy snowfall, At least half a dozen Shikaras got submerged at Dal Lake due to heavy snowfall in Srinagar. In the incident, no loss of life or injury has been reported.

One Houseboat also sank in river Jhelum due to Snowfall.

The highway connecting Kashmir to rest of Country Srinagar- Jammu highway remained closed. It will remain closed tomorrow as well.

Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Pandurang K Pole stated that essential services are being restored on warfoot basis, and 70 percent roads have been cleared of snow on priority basis.
