Srinagar: ”Gurupurab”, the 542nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji was today celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region with religious fervour and gaiety.
Members of the Sikh community visited gurdwaras and other Holy places since early this morning.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Chati Padshahi, Rainawari, in the downtown, where members of the community, who had come from different parts of the city and outskirts, took part in the prayers, including Bhajan-Kirtan. A ‘langar’ was also arranged for the devotees.
A large number of Muslims were also seen greeting their sikh brethern outside the Gudrwara, on the foothills of Kohi-e-Maran hills, where the shrine of Hazrat Mehboob-ul-Aalam and a Hindu Godds temple are also located.
Similar functions were also held in other gurdwaras, including at Barzulla, Tral, Baramulla and Jawahar Nagar.
Special prayer meetings besides ‘langar’ were also organised on the occasion.
Reports of Gurupurab celebrations were also received from Leh and Kargil despite severe cold due to minus temperature.
