Srinagar: Fresh snowfall was experienced at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg while plains, including summer capital Srinagar, had rains resulting in considerable cold, forcing people to wear woollen and other warm clothes.

Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, a major tourist attraction, was colder than Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region after the minimum dropped to seven degrees below normal this morning following fresh snowfall last night.

He said tree and roof tops turned white. However, snowfall was followed by rains, he said adding that it was raining today also.

Senior Army officers had warned of increase in the infiltration from across the border during summer months after melting of snow. However, this time the routes are under huge snow with the result the fence on the LoC, which was damaged during winter, could not be repaired completely.

More than 500 militants are waiting in launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to sneak into this side this summer.

Troops guarding the border have already intensified night and foot patrolling to foil any infiltration bid by militants.
