Govt won’t allow Hurriyat (M) to hold rally in Eidgah

Srinagar: The government has decided not to allow Hurriyat Conference (M) to hold a rally at Eidhgah on Tuesday to commemorate 23rd martyrdom anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone.

Sources told that Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) City, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari visited Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaz Umar’s Nigeen residence on Monday and urged him not to go ahead with his proposed march. “They (DC and SSP) told Mirwaiz that he was under house arrest and shouldn’t make any attempt to hold a rally in Eidgah due to the apprehension of law and order problems,” they said.
Media Advisor to Mirwaiz, Shahid-ul-Islam confirmed to that the DC and SSP visited Hurriyat (M) chairman’s Nigeen residence at 4 PM on Monday. “They told that government will not allow any rally on Tuesday,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources told that government will impose curfew like restrictions in five police station areas in old city on Tuesday to thwart the proposed Hurriyat (M) rally.
However, DC Srinagar said that there will be no curfew in any part of the city on Tuesday.
