Govt striving for reviving of silk, wool industry: Salathia

SRINAGAR: The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia today said the government is striving for revival of traditional silk and wool industries of the State and has launched several schemes for the promotion of these industries.
The Minister said this while inspecting Silk Factory Raj Bagh and Woolen Mills, Bemina here today.
Slathia said that coalition government led by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is very keen to review the industrial sector in the State and youth are being provided incentives to establish industrial units, besides entrepreneurs from the country are encouraged for investing in the state which will create avenues of employment for the people.
The Minister said that for the revival of silk industry a project worth Rs. 6.60 crore has been submitted to the central government which will augment the production and income generation in the state. He said that by the efforts of the government the capacity of silk production is expected to touch 48000 mtrs during the current financial year as compared to 4000 mtrs during the previous year which is manifold increase in the production for which the employees need appreciation. He stressed the employees to work with more dedication for recording higher gains in the sector. The Minister said that state was famous for its silk quality and production not only in the country but world over and the machines which have become non functional will be set right which will also help in the increase of production.
The Minister also visited woolen mills Bemina for which a project worth Rs. 2.50 crore has been approved and said measures would be initiated for making it profit earning industry and restoration of its pristine glory. The Minister on the occasion expressed sympathies with the next of kin of the two employees namely Mushtaq Ahmad, Jamalata and Ghulam Hassan Batamalo on their accidental death a few days back.
The Managing Director, J&K Industries, Mr. Javid Iqbal, Managing Director, SICOP and guest of honour, Lovel Reshi besides other concerned officer accompanied the minister.
