TANGMARG: Referring to the empowerment of the Panchayati Raj representatives as one of the most important achievements of the government, the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that by doing so we have ensured the local self governance is put in place and masses at the grass root level are involved in implementation, plan formulation of their respective areas.
The Minister was addressing a massive gathering at Siri Varpora, Tangmarg here today. Member of Parliament, Sharief-u-din Shariek, Director Rural development, Kashmir, Jahangir Mir, Panches, Sarpanches and other senior officers were present.
Taking a dig at the parties and forces trying to discredit the achievements of the government, the Minster said that we believe in sustained action rather than rhetoric and spreading rumors. “We have ensured that what the other dispensations could not do by putting in place the Panchyats, issuing orders of empowerment of the panches and sarpanches by empowering them with the powers of 14 vital departments which will go a long way in local self governance of the people living in rural and far flung areas.”, he added.
Appealing the people to understand the importance of peace, the Minister said that we have to understand this fact that no development can take place in a disturbed environment and we have suffered a lot during the last two decades. He said that we should all collectively work for sustainment of the same, so that the various developmental and welfare programmes undertaken by the government for the people are completed within the stipulated time frame.
Mr. Sagar said that the government believes in overall and sustained development of the state particularly the rural and far-flung areas. He said that various welfare schemes have been launched for changing socio-economic profile of people living in rural areas and maintained MGNREGA has also contributed to the large extent in poverty alleviation and provided much needed employment at their doorsteps. “Record amount of Rs. 1400 crore has been earmarked under MGNREGA for the state and I appeal the people to come forward in large numbers to avail the benefits of this flagship scheme”, he added and maintained that an amount of Rs 111 crore has been earmarked for Baramulla district and 4300 works have been undertaken under the scheme.
Member parliament Mr. Sharief-ud-Din Sharik also spoke on the occasion and asked the people to come forward and involve themselves in the implementation of various welfare programmes undertaken by the government. He said that various disgruntled parties are getting frustrated by the achievements registered by the government and are trying very hard to mislead the people.
