A sudden Cordon and Search Pperation (CASO) was conducted during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in Maharaj Gunj area of Srinagar.
According to details, in response to reports of the presence of militants, the government forces laid siege to Sheikh Mohalla in Maharaj Ganj area of Srinagar and conducted house-to-house search in the midst of severe cold.
Bilal Bashir Bhat, a well-known journalist from Old City Srinagar stated, a large contingent of forces broke into his residence at around 12:30am and searched the house.
It is learned that witnessing the heavy contingent of forces in the area created fear and terror among the people.
According to police sources, forces cordoned off the area after reports of presence of militants in the area, however, the siege was lifted at around 2 am after no response was forthcoming.
It is noteworthy that for the last one month, sporadic mobile internet shutdown is reported in various parts of the city. It was learned that at 11 pm on Monday, mobile internet was restored in some areas of Old City after 6 days.
