Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali GeelaniTuesday sought intervention of UN General Secretary Banki Moon in resolving the long pending Kashmir dispute and urged him to impress India and Pakistan for its resolution as per aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement Geelani expressed his deep concern over the continuing cross border skirmishes between Indo-Pak armies and said that Kashmir issue is a nuclear flash point and the peace and stability in entire subcontinent is at stake. While referring to recent statement issued on behalf of Banki Mon wherein he had stated his readiness for mediation in the long pending issue Geelani said, “India, Pakistan and people of Jammu & Kashmir are the prime parties for the issue. I urge upon Banki Moon to help and save precious lives in strife torn state. People of Jammu & Kashmir have always made their sincere efforts to seek UN intervention and since long are striving for the implementation of right to self determination,” he said.
However, Geelani that it was the stubborn and tough approach adopted by India that the issue recognized by international community, since last 66 years remained unresolved.
While blaming India for creating instability in subcontinent Geelani said that it is for this issue that both countries are spending the major part of their budget over defence and both countries had locked horns over the issue in 1947, 65 and 71. “The war like situation in the subcontinent and tense relation between the two has badly affected the economy the two. India figures 2nd largest as per its population. However, millions of its people suffer due to its wrong policies and are living below poverty line. The people at the helm of affairs are well apprised about the fact that people of Jammu and Kashmir won’t give up and are in no way ready to compromise for their right but the authorities in India for the sake of their ego are continuing the unlawful occupation of the state,” he alleged.
Geelani in his appeal to Banki Mon urged him to take steps and impress India to shun its ‘stubborn approach’ and help in resolving the Kashmir dispute. While greeting people of Pakistan on the eve of their independence day he said that from the very first day Pakistan has supported Kashmir cause and seconded peoples demand for right to self determination. While praying for its stability he said that people of Jammu and Kashmir wish Pakistan to be a stable and prosperous state so that it may play a responsible and key role in world politics and affaires.
