Srinagar: Dismissing rumours about his health, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani Friday said he was touched by the concern shown by Kashmiris for his safety.
“Rumors are being spread about my health, that I am very ill and about to die but I assure you that I am completely fine and would continue to struggle shoulder –to- shoulder with my people for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir,†Geelani said in a telephonic address, recording of which was uploaded by the amalgam on Youtube.
Geelani said he would return to Kashmir on April 2.
“The concern shown by people for my health has encouraged me further to carry on the struggle with all my strength, and made firm my belief that my nation is very sensitive on the issue of freedom and is not ready to reconcile to the Indian occupation,†he said.
Whatever the motive of these rumourmongers, such conspiracies cannot muzzle my voice. Whether we die in the course of our struggle for freedom or achieve our goal in our lives, success is sure in both ways for us†he said.
“I appeal you not to pay heed to these rumours being spread by those who are disturbed by our firmness on our principled struggle for right to self determination,†he said.
Asking India to read the writing on the wall, Geelani said freedom from “ Indian military occupation is our birth right and no power on earth can deny it to us.â€
Pertinently, rumours about Geelani’s health have been doing round in Kashmir for the past few days following Hindu right wing group ABVP’s attack on the Hurriyat (G) chairman at a seminar in New Delhi.
The speculations heightened further today after police and parameter forces were seen in full riot control gear this morning in many parts of Srinagar as part of what later out to be a “mock security drill.†(KMW NEWS)
