Srinagar: Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest today.
Official sources said restrictions were imposed on Mr Geelani as there was apprehension of breach of peace.
A spokesman of the Hurriyat Aiyaz Akbar said a large number of security force and state police personnel arrived at the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani at 0800 hrs this morning.
He said later a senior police officer informed the amalgam chairman that he has been put under house arrest and therefore cannot leave till further orders.
Mr Aiyaz said Mr Geelani was to visit Pulwama today to express his condolence to some bereaved families.
Citicising the decision of the authorities to put restriction on Mr Geelani, Aiyaz said they have already approached the court in this connection.
He said Mr Geelani was being put under house arrest repeatedly without any reason.
