Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has expressed grief over the demise of Pakistani prisoner Sona Ullah and has appealed people to protest against the brutal killing and offer funeral prayer in absentia after Friday prayers on May 10.
In a press statement Geelani while paying glorious tribute to Sona Ullah, extended his sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. Terming the murderous assault on Sona Ullah a pre-planed, politically motivated and an act of reprisal, he demanded an exemplary and stringent action against then SP jail Rajni Sehgal and added an investigation should be initiated against erring officer and added that lacuna in safety measures accounts to murder as administration failed to provide security to Pakistani prisoners.
Geelani expressed his concern and apprehensions with respect to safety of Kashmiri prisoners in Indian jails and impressed that their safety should be guaranteed and demanded that all these detainees be shifted to valley forthwith. He said that recent episodes of murderous assault and lapses in the security has gripped the valley with anxiety hence all the detainees languishing in Jammu jails also need to be shifted to valley.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that India should follow the precedence of Pakistani administration and authorities should ensure that the mortal remains of Sona Ullah is handed over to Pakistan Government and his family. “We had warned about the possible attacks on Pakistani and Kashmiri detainees after the sad episode in Kotlakhpat jail Pakistan and sought proper arrangement with respect to safety measures for the detainees but the callous and careless approach of jail authorities led to the death of Sona Ullah,†he said.
While referring to the death of Surubjeet Singh in Kotlakhpat jail Geelani said that it was a result of defective and loose security system and added that murderous assault on Sona Ullah was a pre-planned, result of political vendetta. He demanded to book Rajni Sehgal for her malicious track record against detainees. “Ever since she was appointed in Sub Jail Kotbhalwal, she has terrorised and harassed the prisoners and her arrogance and prejudice against prisoners led to the brutal death of Sona Ullah,†he said.
Geelani said that though reports regarding her callous and inhuman approach were highlighted in media too but the authorities never dare to ask her or took serious note of complaints against the said officer.
